Today we went on a whole day trip throughout Wiltshire. Our first stop was Stonehenge. It was such an amazing experience being that close to something so old, so historical, and so mysterious. It was surrounded by country side and routes, which you can only see from the aerial view. There were lots of sheep nearby and crows flying amongst us.
After that we went to Salisbury to see the abbey. It is the tallest in England and fourth tallest in Europe standing at 404 feet. The inside was amazing. The beautiful stained glass was my favorite part. We also got to see one of the four original copies of the Magna Carta. How incredibly amazing! I can’t believe I was just a few inches from it!
Our final stop of the day was at the medieval town of Lacock. We couldn’t visit the abbey since it is closed during the winter, but walking around the town was great. There aren’t any cables visible or nearly any signs of modern life. The town has had multiple movies filmed there because the lack of modern life. Some examples are Harry Potter, Wolfman, Emma, Sense and Sensibility, and more! We got to then experience our first Sunday English Roast Dinner! I got roast beef with potatoes, broccoli, and carrots smothered in gravy. For dessert I got toffee pudding, which is a cake.
After a long day, it was great to come home and just pass out. Tomorrow classes start, but I have the day off. Cheers!
It’s a Saturday and there are many a markets open on the weekend with fresh produce, goods to buy, and lots to see. We went to a few markets with the group the ASE group today. It was a lot of fun and I will definitely make it a habit of visiting it. I spent some time with my roomies. At night I went out to the Hobgoblin for a half pint with my roommate Molly and her friend Mariah. I got Firedancer, which was a sweeter cider, but nice since I’ve had a lot of dry ciders
Since I didn’t have anything planned for orientation this day, I was able to go around the city and explore on my own. There were so many things that I hadn’t seen and it was nice to start feeling more comfortable in my setting. I got some good ideas for gifts for family, went to the post office, explored the markets, and just walked around everywhere. Later that night we went to the Victoria Art Gallery to meet our tutors. Dressing “smartly” was fun and the tutors were all really nice. I’m really excited about my classes starting. Everything here is just so amazing and I am constantly blown away!
After the meet and greet was over we were walking back to get some food. Then some drunk Brits started striking up conversation with us. Well, they ended up starting a fight with some people that were there. It was kind of terrifying since I’ve never seen a fight before. Luckily, we were in a big group and went away. We made it back home safely and filled our tummies. Lets see what the next few days will bring!
